Waar ik ophoud. Over psychoanalyse, therapie en maatschappij

De psychoanalytische ruimte is misschien wel de enige ruimte in de huidige maatschappij waar vrijuit, zonder oordeel, over letterlijk alles kan worden gesproken. In zijn werk onderzoekt psycholoog en filosoof Arthur Eaton de waarde van de spreekkamer en pleit hij voor een wereld met meer therapie. Deze avond staat in het teken van zijn nieuwe boek Waar ik ophoud.

Meer mensen zouden in therapie moeten gaan. Ter verlichting van hun psychische problematiek, maar ook ter voorkoming van erger, jaren later. Vooral jonge volwassenen, meent psycholoog en filosoof Arthur Eaton, hebben er veel baat bij. De vrijheid in de spreekkamer kan je helpen om te worden wie je bent. Vanavond gaat hij ter gelegenheid van zijn nieuwe boek Waar ik ophoud. Psychoanalytische essays met Paul Verhaeghe en Robin Goudsmit in gesprek over de idee en praktijk van de psychoanalyse. Met muziek van Fuensanta Mendez.

Over de sprekers

Arthur Eaton is psycholoog, filosoof en schrijver. Hij heeft een praktijk voor analytische therapie in Amsterdam en schrijft onder meer voor NRC Handelsblad. In De Groene Amsterdammer heeft hij een tweewekelijkse column waarin hij levensvragen van lezers bespreekt. In 2017 promoveerde hij in psychoanalyse studies aan University College London.

Paul Verhaeghe is doctor in de klinische psychologie en emeritus-hoogleraar aan de Universiteit Gent. Daarnaast is hij praktiserend psychoanalyticus. Hij bereikte een groot internationaal lezerspubliek met onder meer Identiteit (2012), Autoriteit (2015) en Intimiteit (2018). Daarnaast publiceerde hij de essays Over normaliteit en andere afwijkingen (2019) en Houd afstand, raak me aan. In 2021 blikte hij in Wat brengt u hier?, het boek dat hij samen met Sarah Vankersschaever maakte, terug op zijn carrière. In mei 2023 verschijnt Onbehagen.

Fuensanta Mendez is a singer, double bassist, composer, improviser & multidisciplinary artist born in the water forest of Veracruz (Mexico) and based in Amsterdam. Her music holds rare and simple  poetry to be a sincere crystal that helps open a surreal vision over the things in the world. Mendez’s debut studio album will be released this summer through NYC label GroundUp Music. Currently, she is artist in residence (2021-2023) at BIMHUIS.

Robin Goudsmit (moderator) is journalist bij Trouw. Haar werk verscheen ook in De Revisor en rekto:verso. In 2021 werd ze door Vlaams-Nederlands huis deBuren en het Brusselse podium Pilar benoemd tot Scherpsteller, een positie voor een veelbelovende jonge denker.
