Putin’s War and Germany’s New Foreign Policy
Putin’s war against Ukraine has ushered in the dawn of a new era or ‘Zeitenwende’. This is especially the case for Germany. In this talk, Professor Gunther Hellmann (Frankfurt/Main) will argue that hints of a pending turn-around started earlier than usually perceived. He further argues that the implications of the transformation in German foreign policy will most likely be more far-reaching than often assumed.
About the speakers
Gunther Hellmann is Professor of Political Science and a principal investigator in the Cluster of Excellence The Formation of Normative Orders at the Goethe University Frankfurt. His research focuses on the fields of international relations theory, foreign policy analysis (especially German and European foreign policy) and international security.
Wolfgang Wagner is Professor of International Security at the Department of Political Science and Public Administration at the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam. His research focuses on International Relations, peace and conflict studies and European Union politics, especially Common Foreign and Security Policy and EU Justice and Home Affairs.
