Gedurende het seizoen 2017-2018 organiseert L’Institut Français i.s.m. Athenaeum Boekhandel bij SPUI25 ontmoetingen met schrijvers uit diverse categorieën, allen vertegenwoordigers van de bruisende literaire wereld in het Frankrijk van vandaag. Deze keer te gast bij Olivier Barrot: Karol Beffa

Over de spreker

Het is niet overdreven om Karol Beffa (44) hoogbegaafd te noemen. Als kind vertolkte hij in een beroemde tv-serie de rol van de jonge Mozart, met 14 jaar wordt hij toegelaten op het Conservatorium (waar hij uitblinkt), studeert aan de Ecole Normale Supérieure en in Cambridge, geeft les aan de Polytechnique en het Collège de France. Als pianist begeleidt hij live voorstellingen van stomme films en tekstlezingen (Toni Morrison, Daniel Pennac). Als bekroond componist laat hij zich inspireren door dichters (Baudelaire) en maakt werk dat overal gespeeld wordt (London Symphony Orchestre, Orchestre de Paris). Hij geeft ook les over compositieleer. Daarnaast is hij auteur en schreef hij de biografie van György Ligeti, uitgegeven samen met Cédric Villani onder de titel Les coulisses de la création.
