Karène Sanchez Summerer

Karène Sanchez Summerer is Professor and Chair of Middle Eastern studies, co-director of the Centre for Historical Studies at Groningen University. Her research and teaching interests include Christian Arab communities of and in the Middle East, a relational cultural and social history of Ottoman and Mandate Palestine (1870-1950), minorities in the Middle East. She is particularly interested in engaging with multilateral transnational connections. Her last publications include Imaging and Imagining Palestine: Photography, Modernity and the Biblical Lens (1918–1948) (2021), The ‘House of the Priest’. A Palestinian life (1885-1954) (2022), and Unsilencing Palestine 1922-23: 100 years after the beginning of the British Mandate in Palestine. The Franck Scholten collection revisited.
